So, you're finally bringing your horse home—how exciting.
But now you're staring down the world of horse fencing, and let’s be honest… it gets overwhelming fast.
What exactly do you need? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but one of the most popular (and practical) options out there is horse panels (also called horse corral panels).
What are horse panels?

You’ve probably seen the term horse panel tossed around online to describe all kinds of fencing—which makes things a bit confusing. Here's the kind most often referred to...
Horse panels are 10' steel fence sections that you clamp to one another. Horse panels are used to build everything from corrals and pens, to stalls and quick overnight setups for rodeo or camping.
They're the go-to for horse owners because they’re durable, easy to install, and versatile for your usage and property.
At Seven Peaks Fence and Barn, we build both standard and heavy-duty horse panels, and every panel is hand-welded from 14-gauge steel.
Our standard panels are tough, sturdy, and meet the needs of most horse owners. They’re a solid option whether you’re setting up your first stall kit or expanding a turnout pen.
Our heavy-duty panels were originally created to meet the BLM’s requirements for mustang adoption—but they’ve since become a popular choice for our customers with larger breeds, younger high-energy horses, or training areas that need a bit more muscle.
When deciding between the two, consider your current horse—and who might join your herd later. A good match now can save you time, money, and headaches down the line.
How Many Rails Do You Really Need?

How many rails you need is really determined by how you plan to use your panels.
At Seven Peaks, most of our traditional panels are 5 feet tall. Travel panels stand a foot shorter at 4 ft tall and our 6-rail heavy-duty panels are 6 feet tall to meet BLM standards for mustang adoption.
Every setup is different, so here’s how to think through your options:
- 2-Rail Panels – Part of our travel panel sets. They're compact and portable—ideal for temporary overnight setups while camping or hauling to rodeo circuits.
- 4-Rail Panels – These 5 ft tall panels have the widest spacing between rails.
- 5-Rail Panels – Our most popular size. Available in both standard and heavy-duty, they’re a versatile choice for everything from pasture fencing to stall setups to working pens.
- 6-Rail Panels – These 6 ft tall heavy-duty panels were created to meet mustang adoption requirements but have become a favorite for anyone wanting closer rail spacing and more height.
Horse Panels Are More Versatile Than You Think

Horse panels are kind of like duct tape—once you have ‘em, you’ll find a dozen ways to use ‘em.
Most customers start with a stall setup. But give it a minute, and they're linking them to a barn, building round pens, and before you know it you've got a riding arena in your backyard.
Horse panels are ideal, because they can shift with you. When you expand your layout, expand your space, or repurpose them for foaling or a different need.
That’s a big deal when we all know that horses, herds, and plans have a way of growing.
Horse Panels are Easy to Build
No one loves spending their weekend building fence. Get a load of this.
We sell our panels in kits or individually, so you can get exactly what you need without overbuying. Most setups go up in an afternoon. No really! Usually less. (Arenas? Give yourself a little more time, obviously.)
Plenty of our customers build theirs solo. But we always encourage you to bribe a buddy or a kiddo with some tacos and get a second set of hands.
Not All Horse Panels Are Created Equal
Now that you’ve got a handle on what horse panels are, let’s talk about what makes a good one. At Seven Peaks, we’re horse people first. We built this company to offer panels that hold up in real life.
Most panels you’ll find at big box stores are lightweight, mass-produced, and made from thinner steel. That makes them more susceptible to bending, breaking, or warping from everyday use—like a butt or neck rub...
You don’t need to become a steel expert—but it’s worth understanding what sets ours apart. Watch this video to see a strength comparison irl (not in a computer simulation):
Every one of our panels is hand-welded right here in our shops in AZ and TX, using 14-gauge steel. They’re built for everyday ranch use—we'd prefer they look good next to your barn in a few years then on a retail lot this month.
